Renault Zoe best selling Electric Car in Europe

The February 2018 year to date electric car registration figures released by European Automobile Manufacturers Association (www.acea.be) show that the Renault Zoe was the best selling electric car in February and YTD February.

The Zoe had a very strong February with 2,439 registrations, overtaking the VW e-golf, January’s best selling electric car.

The Nissan Leaf mark 2 had strong growth in February with 1,540 registrations, a growth of 191% month on month. The Leaf is likely to overtake the Zoe in the March figures as the newly launched model gathers momentum.

The Mitsubishi Outlander remains the best selling SUV with 1,059 registrations, down 8% month on month. Following on as next best selling being the Volvo XC60 T8 twin Engine at 935 registrations.

The biggest faller month on month is the Hyundai Ioniq Electric with 679 registrations, down 33%.

Tesla’s Model S lies at 20th with 600 registrations, the only other model in the top 20 showing growth, up 39%.

Shifting toward 100% Electric from Hybrid?

Worthy of note is that the top 4 selling electric cars in February are 100% electric. This shift showing the growing confidence by consumers in 100% electric cars. Of the top 20 electric car registrations in February, 53% were 100% electric cars. This is up from 50% in January a market shift towards 100% electric from hybrids.
