Toyota Auris Hybrid Review

The Toyota Auris Hybrid is no longer available to buy new but can be found on the used car market.

Toyota now offer hybrid models of the Yaris, Prius, Corolla, C-HR, RAV4, Camry, and Highlander, each with several model options. Plug-in hybrids are available in the Prius and RAV4.

The last 3rd generation Toyota Auris Hybrid comes in 4 models, the Icon, Icon Tech, Design and the Excel. The entry level Icon started at £22,510 and the Excel at £25,810 on the road including government grant.. As with the Prius it has the Toyota new Hybrid system with the battery recuperating more energy and a seamless switch between electric and petrol engine mode.

Standard Specifications

The entry level 1.8 Petrol Auris Hybrid Icon model comes with a great list of standard inclusives;

• 16″ alloy wheels.
• 7″ touchscreen media system with 6 speakers, Cd, DAB and Bluetooth.
• Toyota Safety Sense including Pre-Collision System.
• Power Windows.
• Auto air conditioning.
• Reversing Camera.
• 5-Star Euro NCAP safety rating.
• Pre-Collision System
• Auto headlights, LED rear lights and LED running lights.

Optional extras include the Parking Pack (front and rear parking assist and sensors for £500), Chrome Pack (£250), Leather upholstery (£950) and the Protection Pack (£350 for mud flaps, bumper protection plate and boot liner).

The leather seats and the Parking pack come standard in the Excel of which you can also choose a panoramic sunroof (extra).  The Excel model also comes with with extra features as standard such as heated front seats, smart entry and push button start, auto wipers and auto folding door mirrors.

There are lots of great colours to choose from but all come with an extra charge apart from the Standard Luna Shadow (shown above).

New and improved Powertrain

The Toyota full hybrid 1.8 litre powertrain delivers significantly improved fuel economy in a more compact package that is lighter in weight. This is achieved with a new generation of powertrains with significant advances in battery, electric motor and gasoline engine technologies.The latest Auris Hybrid has an official EPA rating of 67.2 mpg in urban mode, 68.8 mpg in combined mode and claims 72.4 mpg in ‘urban extra’ mode.
