VW to launch one new EV a month from 2022!
VW CEO Matthias Müller has said that once its EV programme reaches full speed in 2022 it will be launching “practically one new VW electric model per month”.
Talking at the VW’s annual media conference in Berlin, Müller said VW’s big electric push comes as part of its “intentions to launch the largest fleet of electric vehicles of all brands in the world”.
The arrival of the VW ID (pictured above), which is due on roads as the company’s first purpose-built electric model in 2020, will kick-start this brand “transition” and be quickly followed by up to 300 new electrified cars by 2030, many being added to existing model ranges.
VW will adapt a further nine of its production facilities with tooling to build Electric Vehicles by 2020, totalling 16 by 2022.
During the PR conference, Müller stated that VW’s rapid change of focus on EVs has been driven by the diesel scandal. He said: “The diesel scandal told us there was a need for radical change; the crisis has acted as a catalyst.”
