The Hyundai Kona Electric 64kWh
The new Hyundai KONA electric with the 64kWh battery has an official range of 279 miles between plug-ins but evidence suggests from real world owners that it can reach 300 miles. It is currently priced from £29,600, including the £3000 car grant. The slightly cheaper KONA electric with the 39kWh battery can still travel an impressive 180 miles between plug-ins.
The new Kona electric 64kWh is an electric game-changer. It’s possible to charge up to 80% of the battery in an hour, using DC chargers up to 100kW to replenish its 64kWh battery, so a trip of, say, 400 miles with a single stop is now highly possible. And you’d need a coffee/pee break anyway. To drive it’s full of zip and, like all EVs, it’s astonishingly smooth and quiet. The cabin is a pleasant place to spend time though it’s not as luxurious as a Tesla, but then it’s not as expensive either.
The model options are SE, Premium and Premium SE. Included in both options as standard is a long list of high tech specs, including;
- 17″ Alloy Wheels
- Body coloured door mirrors and handles
- Cruise Control – Smart Adaptive Speed Control With Stop And Go Function
- Leather Steering Wheel
- Touchscreen and USB Connections
- Hill Start Control
- Automatic Headlights with Dusk Sensor
- Air Conditioning and Auto De-Fog Windscreen
- Lane Keep Assist (LKA)
There’s not much missing from the standard pack but the Premium SE package also gets you a 10.25″ Widescreen Navigation, Wireless Phone Charging Pad, Heated Front and Rear seats, ISLW (Intelligent Speed Limit Warning), Lane Follow Assist (LFA), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) and Automatic Windscreen Wipers with Rain Sensor .
